What is NAIMA's Botox training in Vancouver?
NAIMA's Botox training is the Neuromodulators Certification, an intensive 2-day course on botulinum toxin type A injection for cosmetic indications. It combines theory with supervised injecting on live models, in small groups set up to mirror a working aesthetic clinic.
NAIMA (the North American Institute of Medical Aesthetics) is a professional training and certification provider with 15,000+ graduates and 22 listed instructors. It trains in Vancouver, Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton, Montreal, Kitchener and Regina, and every NAIMA course and masterclass is offered in Vancouver. Vancouver is its West Coast training location, and it serves clinicians from across the Lower Mainland, including Burnaby, Surrey, Richmond, North Vancouver and Coquitlam, as well as those who travel in from Victoria or Kelowna.
A note on terms: "Botox" is one brand of botulinum toxin, and the training applies to neuromodulator products such as Botox, Dysport and Xeomin. In clinical and educational settings, NAIMA's course uses the generic term "neuromodulators," and so does this guide where it matters.
What does botulinum toxin training cover in the Neuromodulators Certification?
The course covers the anatomy, products and technique you need to perform common upper-face neuromodulator treatments safely, then has you perform them under supervision.
Theory and technique
- Neuromodulator injections
- Face and muscle anatomy
- Product knowledge
- Safe injection practice
- Aftercare instruction
Hands-on practice
- A medical practitioner supervises while students perform the injections, so you treat patients rather than only observe.
- Instructors give oversight and real-time feedback throughout.
- Small-group practical work with 1:1 treatment, designed to mirror an aesthetic clinic.
If you want to know how the two days are typically split, NAIMA has published a separate article on what happens on day 1 vs day 2 of neuromodulator training.
How many procedures do you perform on live models?
You perform a minimum of 13 procedures on live cosmetic models, all provided by NAIMA. The breakdown on the course page is:
Treatment area | Minimum procedures |
|---|---|
Glabellar lines | 3 |
Frontalis (forehead) lines | 3 |
Crow's feet | 3 |
Bunny lines | 2 |
Lip flip | 2 |
Total | 13 |
NAIMA's FAQ also says you may bring your own models to training. After the course, graduates can practise a modality by bringing models to a 3D Lifestyle Clinic, only under an expert medical practitioner's supervision.
How much does Botox training cost in Vancouver?
NAIMA's Neuromodulators Certification tuition is CAD $2,500. Tuition is subject to change, so confirm the current fee with admissions before you enrol.
Payment options:
- Upfront at enrolment.
- Four bi-weekly instalments (NAIMA FAQ).
- Humm financing via the financing page: up to $30,000 for tuition and materials, up to 5 years in equal monthly payments, "0% interest rate on eligible loans," no penalty for early repayment, and a credit decision in "less than 7 minutes." Humm confirms approval, rates and terms when you apply.
Online card checkout does not submit a Humm application, so contact admissions first if you plan to finance.
Refunds: students in Certification Courses get a full refund with written notice 30 days before the class starts. NAIMA has no partial refund policy. You can reschedule to any course with 15 days' notice before the class starts.
Who can enrol in Botox training at NAIMA Vancouver?
Licensed medical practitioners can enrol. NAIMA's FAQ lists physicians, surgeons, nurse practitioners, RNs, LPNs, RPNs and internationally trained medical graduates, and the about page also names dentists. The course page does not set a course-specific prerequisite; admissions confirms your eligibility.
Enrolment is not the same as authority to inject. A NAIMA certificate is education and does not by itself authorize anyone to inject neuromodulators in BC. That authority comes from your regulatory college.
Who can inject Botox in British Columbia?
Under current BC rules, physicians and nurse practitioners can inject within their scope, and RNs, RPNs and LPNs can inject under a client-specific order with the ordering professional present at the facility. Estheticians and unlicensed staff cannot inject.
What BC's regulators say:
- Nurses (RN, RPN): the BCCNM RN medical aesthetics page says Botox and fillers are within nursing scope and involve restricted activities. "A client-specific order is required for procedures involving injectables drugs/substances." The ordering professional "is or will be present at the facility during the procedure and immediately available for consultation." Nurses "cannot give orders for medical aesthetic procedures." BCCNM notes Botox is a Schedule I drug in BC.
- LPNs: the BCCNM LPN aesthetics page applies the same client-specific order and onsite requirements.
- Nurse practitioners: the BCCNM NP aesthetics page says NPs "may compound, administer, and dispense any drug they are authorized to prescribe," and must be present in the facility when acting as the ordering professional.
- Who may give the order: BCCNM's Acting with Client-specific Orders standard lists physicians, NPs, dentists, midwives, naturopathic physicians, podiatrists, pharmacists, certified registered nurses and certified registered psychiatric nurses. Whether each may order cosmetic neuromodulators depends on their own scope, so do not assume it.
- Physicians: the CPSBC injection practice standard says physicians may, "following assessment of the patient," order a BCCNM-licensed nurse to inject, and must be "present within the facility and immediately available for consultation."
- Estheticians: the CPSBC unlicensed practice page states, "Estheticians or other non-regulated persons are not authorized to inject medicines such as Botox."
BC health professions have been regulated under the Health Professions and Occupations Act (HPOA) since April 1, 2026. Sources citing BC's former Health Professions Act are out of date.
Scope of practice is set by your regulatory college. Confirm with your college before practising. For a profession-by-profession breakdown, see Who can inject Botox and filler in British Columbia?
Is botulinum toxin regulated federally too?
Yes. Botulinum toxin is listed on Health Canada's Prescription Drug List. Under Food and Drug Regulations section C.01.044, public advertising of a prescription drug may only mention its brand name, proper name, common name, price and quantity. If you plan to promote neuromodulator services in Vancouver, check this and your college's advertising rules first.
What comes after the Neuromodulators Certification?
Most clinicians move on to dermal fillers or a broader program once they are comfortable with upper-face neuromodulator treatment.
Next step | What it adds | Tuition (CAD) |
|---|---|---|
Lips, jawline, chin, smile lines, cheeks, under-eye; 10 syringes per student | $4,500 | |
Botox injectables, dermal fillers, PRP, fat dissolving, sales and consultation | $9,995 | |
Graduate membership | Free virtual live training, model call and job updates | No fee |
The Preceptorship course page says graduates "may be eligible for part-time employment opportunities," starting at 1 day a week, at 3D Lifestyle clinics in Vancouver and Coquitlam, with a North Vancouver location planned. Employment is not guaranteed. Read more in our dermal filler training guide and the full Vancouver medical aesthetics training guide.
